Questions about scaniflost

Last updated

scaniflost QR tags let whoever finds your things message you without seeing your contact details. Any phone camera opens the code, there's no app, and the codes don't expire. The questions people ask most are answered below.

Questions

What happens if someone scans my tag?

Their camera opens a page showing what the item is, your first name, and whether you’ve reported it lost. There’s a box for them to say where they found it. As soon as they send that message we email you, and you can reply from your dashboard.

Does the finder see my phone number or email address?

No. Neither is ever shown on the page or in the message thread. Replies go through scaniflost. If you decide you’d rather swap numbers to arrange a handover, that’s your choice to make in the conversation.

Do they need the scaniflost app?

No. Any modern phone camera reads the code and opens a normal web page. A finder who’s never heard of scaniflost can message you within seconds of picking your things up.

Can I move a tag between items?

A label stays stuck to whatever you put it on, but the page behind it is yours to change. Rename what a code protects at any time from your dashboard. If a tag gets damaged or you give the item away, deactivate it and scans stop working immediately.

What does the membership cost?

99p for the first month, then £1.50 a month for your whole account, however many tags you have. Cancel any time.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your codes stop putting finders in touch: a scan shows “this tag is paused” instead of your item, and no messages are passed on. Nothing is deleted. Start the membership again and the same printed codes work as before. You can cancel any time from your settings.

How long will my QR code work?

For as long as your membership is active. The codes don’t expire and there’s no battery to run out. The membership is what keeps the redirects, scan alerts and the message relay running.

What if the finder doesn't speak English?

The finder's page follows their phone's language: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Simplified Chinese or Japanese. They can also pick a language at the bottom of the page.

Will I know where my things were found?

The finder is asked to say where they found it in their message, and they can choose to share their approximate location with you. Sharing it is up to them.

Couldn't someone use my tag to scam me?

Anyone holding your tag can write to you, so messages that push you towards paying somebody or opening a link are flagged automatically, with a warning on the item and in the email. You can close or report a conversation at any time. Nobody should ask you to pay to get your things back.

What should I do when something goes missing?

Mark it lost in your dashboard. Whoever scans it then sees that you're looking for it. When it's back, mark it returned.

Can scaniflost find my things for me?

No. scaniflost doesn't locate anything. It makes it easy for the honest person who has found your things to reach you, which is often all that's missing.

Are the stickers waterproof?

They're water and scratch resistant vinyl, so they cope with rain, spills and wiping clean. We don't call them waterproof, because they aren't made to be submerged.

Where do you deliver?

We post to UK addresses only. The codes themselves work wherever the finder is.
